Paul (Van House) worked at WMRN radio in Marion, Ohio
from November of 1977 to June of 1981. It was his first full-time job in
radio. Many friends were made here, some of which we still keep in touch
with. In addition Paul left bachelorhood behind after about one-year on
the job and became a father 2-months before leaving for Corpus Christi in 1981.
The pictures below show some equipment and lots of people who
were involved in "Marion Radio."
The Sounds of WMRN
They're not very well preserved but here are some sound clips.
You'll need an MP3 player to listen Click on the description.

Anytime
Is Music Time
On "Stereo Marion" Thanks to the IGM Automation, 6
10" reel to reel decks loaded with Schulke Beautiful Music,, a 48 tray "Insta Cart" system
and two cart machines each
with pre-recorded liners
and time of day that fired
automatically every minute
around the clock so when the automation put one on the air, the time would be correct (most of the
time) -- 1978

Dressing
Up to be on the radio? Well, we talked in character, too. This
is Paul as Count Dracula while co-hosting the morning talk show
"Today's World." Yes, I took the fake teeth out when
talking! After new ownership took over in 1981, Paul was taken off
the air briefly, then put back on to host a daily Farm Show. 20
people left the station within a year of the ownership change having been
moved to positions they could not tolerate!
|
"Today's
World" star, Sue Westfall, dressed up as a pirate. One of the
famous features of the talk show was "Swap Shop." Sue also
once arranged a show with a job search counselor. We both took lots of
notes! Sue was also FM Continuity Director. These pictures were taken
July 31, 1979.

on she broke out into laughter.

Bob
George Plays the National Anthem on a saw prior to the 1979 "Peanut
Push". News Director Steve Stewart is holding the mic and high-tech
Marti relay unit. Farm director and
long-time WMRN morning man Charlie Evers is in the center left, News Man
Larry Mathiot is pictured in the center right (pink shirt.) The
breathing masks were required so contestants would not blow their
peanut. The object was to push the peanut across the street with your
nose.

I think that's program director Roger "give you best effert"
Fisher to the left of Charlie. You'll notice that the Peanut King
and Queen are wearing their peanut crowns.
