Windows Setup Program Instructions

bullet

After running the file extraction program as outlined above, the windows Setup program will start.

Now you can choose the folder/directory from which Copy Genie will be run. It defaults to your C: drive, in the Binx\Copy Genie folder. If you'd like to choose a different Install folder, click the "Browse" Button.

bulletAfter choosing the directory, click the OK button. If you've chosen a folder that does not exist, you'll get a warning message:

If this is the proper directory, click "yes" to continue, then click the "next" button.

bulletNext, you will be asked to choose the "program" folder where the Copy Genie program icons will be located. It defaults to "Copy Genie". However, if you have other Binx programs, you may want to change this to the "Binx" Folder. After you've made your selection, Click the "next" button.

Now the install program lets you review your choices. If all is OK, click the "next" button to begin the Install process. Otherwise, click the "Back" button to make changes.

bulletOnce the install program completes, you can choose to Start Copy Genie Immediately. In some cases, you may have to restart your computer for the program to run correctly.
bulletEach time you start the program, you'll be asked to enter a company name and registration number. Please enter the word SAMPLE in both areas to run the evaluation versions! Upon program registration, you'll be given an access code to allow full use of Copy Genie.
bullet

Operation of Copy Genie can be learned by using the program's on-line help system.  Press the F1 key for help at any time.

bullet

Once installation is complete, you  may delete the downloaded file. The installation files should be automatically removed from your system's Temporary folder.

bullet

To uninstall Copy Genie, Choose "Add/Remove Programs" from your system's "Control Panel", select Copy Genie, then Uninstall.  Any user files will have to be removed manually.

bullet

If you have another program, such as Corel Office, that uses the Borland Database Engine, do not remove any "shared" files located in the directory "C:\Program Files\Borland"! Removing these files will render the BDE inoperable and you will need to re-install your other application.

System File Installation

bullet

If you plan to run Copy Genie on a network from more than one work station, you should also download and install the "System Files."  While the program files needs to be installed just once on the server, the System files needs to be installed on each work station.

bullet

Click the image above to download the file "BinxSysInstall.exe"

bullet

Once the files are downloaded, run the downloaded BinxSysInstall.exe.  The following window should appear on your screen:

Click on the OK button to begin the process. The setup files will be extracted to your system's "Temporary" folder.  Once all files are extracted, the Windows Setup program will load.
Instructions for installing the System Files Windows Setup program is similar to that of the Program Files Windows Setup program except that you will not be given a choice of installation folder.
All files will be installed to your Windows System folder and the Program Files\Common Files\Borland\BDE Folder.  Several registry entries will also be made.
The system files consist mainly of the "Borland Database Engine," version 5.2.02"   This database engine is featured in several programming languages as well as WordPerfect.  In some rare instances, installation of the BDE may conflict with an existing version.  If that happens, please contact Binx Custom Software.
Once system files are installed, proceed with installation of the Copy Genie Program Files as outlined below.

Network Considerations

bulletFirst and foremost, DO NOT RUN THE SYSTEM FILES SETUP PROGRAM FROM THE SERVER UNLESS YOU ALSO PLAN TO USE THE SERVER AS A WORK STATION. The System Files setup program copies several files to the Windows System directory, and makes several entries in the Registry. These files will simply clutter up your server. While they will not impair server performance, they will waste disk space.
bulletIf you plan to use Copy Genie on a Network, you will need to install the Program Files to a shared network folder.    Users running Copy Genie must have "Change" access to this folder on a Windows NT network.
bulletThen you will need to run the System install program from each workstation, and create desktop shortcuts pointing to the folder where the Copy Genie Program files were installed.  You no longer need to have all work stations point to the same drive letter to share Genie files.  Instead, you are required to select a database location when you first start Copy Genie.

Program Registration

While you are certainly not required to register your program, the restrictions place on the evaluation version essentially make the program worthless for practical use.
If you decide you would like to purchase the program click on the Order Form link.  If you're interested in a custom modification contact Binx Custom Software.
