Download and Installation Instructions

bullet

Click the button above to download the file dexfiles.exe.

bullet

Follow download instructions appropriate to your browser.

bullet

You will probably be given a choice of a folder or directory for the download. Use the directory or folder to which you normally download files.

bullet

Once the files are downloaded, run the downloaded dexfiles.exe. The following window should appear on your screen:

                      wpeBD.jpg (13917 bytes)
    Click on the OK button to begin the process.   All installation files will be "extracted" to your system's "temporary" folder.  Once all files are extracted, the Windows Setup program will load.

Windows Setup Program Instructions

bullet

After running the file extraction program as outlined above, the windows Setup program will start.

bullet

Now you'll be given  two choices for installation directories:
            install.bmp (335634 bytes)

bullet

Program Files (Default is C:\BINX\DEXWIN)

bullet

Common or Runtime Files (Default is C:\BINX\COMMON)

bullet

You may change the directories as necessary, but it's best to use the defaults. Do not install the Windows version of Newsodex over the DOS version!!

bullet

Once you've made your choices, click continue, then OK and the program files will be copied to your hard drive, and the following lines will be added to your WIN.INI file:

[VISUAL dBASE INSTALL]
Runtime55=C:\BINX\COMMON

[IDAPI]
DLLPATH=C:\BINX\COMMON
CONFIGFILE01=C:\BINX\COMMON\IDAPI.CFG

[BORLAND LANGUAGE DRIVERS]
LDPATH=C:\BINX\COMMON\LANGDRV

bullet

Once the install process is complete, you may run Newsodex! Each time you start the program, you'll be asked to enter a company name and registration number. Please enter the word SAMPLE in both areas to run the evaluation versions! Upon program registration, you'll be given an access code to allow full use of Storm.

bullet

Operation of Newsodex can be learned by using the program's on-line help system.  Press the F1 key for help at any time.

bullet

Once installation is complete, you  may delete the downloaded files and the installation files from your hard drive.  Installation files should be automatcially removed from your system's "Temporary" folder.

bullet

To uninstall the programs, remove all files from the directory to which you installed the program.  If you don't have any other Binx windows programs installed, you may also remove all files from the C:/BINX/COMMON directory (or the directory specified during SETUP).  You can also remove the VISUAL DBASE INSTALL section from WIN.INI

Program Registration

    While you are certainly not required to register your program, the restrictions place on the evaluation version essentially make the program worthless for practical use.

   Network considerations: When using a Network, all Newsodex System and Public database files should be stored on one computer, ideally a dedicated server. Authorized users can have an icon on their desktop to access Newsodex, but each user's WIN.INI file must contain the following section and entries or Newsodex will not run.:

[VISUAL dBASE INSTALL]
Runtime55=C:\BINX\COMMON

(C:\BINX\COMMON is the default installation directory for Newsodex COMMON files. This should be changed to match your installation.)

        INSTALL automatically puts these lines in the WIN.INI file on the machine used to Install Newsodex. An auxiliary program, WINUPDAT.EXE, is located in the directory in which the Newsodex common files are installed. (Its icon should be located in the Program group to which  you install Newsodex.) Run it on each user's machine to automatically update each user's WIN.INI file.
        Each user on the Network needs to have read/write/update/create/erase authority in the Newsodex directory structure. That's because some of the Newsodex functions will create and/or erase temporary files.
        ALL NETWORK USERS: Each user's computer must refer to the same disk drive. If one user runs Newsodex on drive F:, all must run it on drive F:. See your network system instructions on mapping drives.
        If you're running on a peer-to-peer network, such as a WINDOWS '95 network, the 'host' computer must also refer to the same drive. If your network OS does not let you "map" a local drive, enter the following   command into your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:

SUBST F: C:

        This will 'fool' your system into thinking you have a drive named F:, but it is actually referring to drive C:. Again, all other users must refer to drive F: to run Newsodex - they should be able to "map" a network drive and name it F:.

Press the F1 key for help at any time.
