Instructions for installing the System Files Windows
Setup program is similar to that of the Program Files Windows Setup program
except that you will not be given a choice of installation
folder.
All files will be installed to your Windows System folder
and the Program Files\Common Files\Borland\BDE Folder. Several
registry entries will also be made.
The system files consist mainly of the "Borland
Database Engine," version 5.2.02" This database
engine is featured in several programming languages as well as
WordPerfect. In some rare instances, installation of the BDE may
conflict with an existing version. If that happens, please contact
Binx Custom Software.

| First and foremost, DO NOT RUN THE SYSTEM FILES SETUP PROGRAM FROM THE SERVER UNLESS YOU ALSO PLAN TO USE THE SERVER AS A WORK STATION. The System Files setup program copies several files to the Windows System directory, and makes several entries in the Registry. These files will simply clutter up your server. While they will not impair server performance, they will waste disk space. | |
| If you plan to use Ball32 on a Network, you will need to install the Program Files to a shared network folder. This folder must appear to all work stations using Copy Genie as the same mapped drive (see below). Users running Ball32 must have "Change" access to this folder on a Windows NT network. | |
| Then you will need to run the System install program from each workstation, and create desktop shortcuts pointing to the folder where the Ball32 Program files were installed. Be sure to use the same "destination" path at each workstation. For example, if one workstation sees your Ball32 Program Folder as drive O:\BINX\Ball32, ALL workstations must also use this same setup path. To make this process easier, place the installation CD into the server's CD drive and temporarily map a drive from the workstation to the server's CD and run the installation from the server. You may also copy all files from the installation CD onto a "public" directory on the server and run the install program off the network drive. |
